US Embassy, consulates in India closed from today. When will consular services resume?

The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi and all U.S. Consulates in Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Kolkata are closed from Wednesday, December 24 to Friday, December 26, 2025. This closure affects routine consular services such as visa appointments, passport renewals, document verification, and other non-emergency processing.

The shutdown follows a Presidential Executive Order directing the closure of U.S. federal government departments and agencies for the Christmas holiday period.

When Consular Services Will Resume?

Routine consular operations are expected to resume on Saturday, December 27, 2025, after the three-day closure period ends.

Normal visa services (interviews, application processing, passport pickups, etc.) should resume on Dec. 27.

If the weekend affects availability, appointments might be scheduled the next business day, depending on specific mission schedules.
